Macroeconomics

The Macroeconomics Division focuses on providing comprehensive data on national economic indicators that shape Zimbabwe’s economic environment. The division’s role is crucial in delivering data that influences government policy, financial markets, and investment strategies.

Key Functions

  1. National Accounts: Providing GDP estimates, balance of payments, and national income statistics.
  2. Inflation and Price Indices: Calculating consumer price indices (CPI), producer price indices (PPI), and inflation trends.international standards;
  3. Labor Market Statistics: Providing employment, unemployment, and wage data to inform social and economic policies.
  4. Provide technical advice on methodologies related to macroeconomic statistics to other directorates in accordance with international standards;
  5. Collect, analyze, and disseminate macroeconomic statistics.

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) Data (Quarterly and Annual)

  1. GDP is the total monetary value of all goods and services produced within a country’s borders over a specific period.
  2. Quarterly GDP refers to GDP data calculated every three months, providing short-term insights into economic performance.

GDP Production Approach

It follows the formula:

GDP=∑(Gross Value Added)+Taxes− Subsidies

where Gross Value Added (GVA) is the difference between output and intermediate consumption.
