Statistical Services

The Division is responsible for managing and coordinating data collection for all censuses and surveys within the Agency. Our mission is to provide high-quality statistical services for the production of official statistics that support evidence-based decision-making across all sectors of the Zimbabwean economy.

We serve as the face of ZIMSTAT in the Provinces, ensuring that the official statistics produced are accessible and comprehensible to all stakeholders. Our division also provides statistical support for provincial policy development and evaluation.

The Division comprises three key departments:

National Statistical System (NSS) Coordination:This department supervises and coordinates the National Statistical System (NSS) through stakeholder engagement. It fosters collaboration among data stakeholders within the NSS to enhance statistical quality. Other functions include:
◦ Development and implementation of the National Strategy for Development of Statistics (NSDS).
◦ Supports data needs for monitoring national, regional and global development agendas, such as NDS1, Agenda 2030, and Agenda 2063.

– Sampling Department specializes in the design and management of surveys, ensuring robust methodologies

Cartography Department

Creating high-quality maps, including Enumeration Area maps for censuses and surveys and digital maps

Surveys and Sampling Department:

Sampling Department specializes in the design and management of surveys, ensuring robust methodologies through:
◦ Survey design and sample size determination.
◦ Creation and maintenance of sampling frames.
◦ Sample selection, management and evaluation.
◦ Survey data collection and monitoring response rates.
◦ Calculating weights for analysis.
◦ Conducting quality assurance and improvement activities.

Cartography Department:
The Cartography and GIS Department plays a crucial role in supporting ZIMSTAT’s data collection and analysis efforts by:
◦ Creating high-quality maps, including Enumeration Area maps for censuses and surveys and digital maps.
◦ Utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for spatial data analysis to enhance the understanding of population distribution, economic activities and other key phenomena.
◦ Visualising data through maps and other geospatial representations.

Other Services:
We offer a range of services to external clients, including:
◦ Expert input on survey design and research methodologies.
◦ Comprehensive sample design and selection.
◦ Training of field staff in data collection and quality assurance.
◦ Data collection, analysis, report writing and dissemination of results.
